Gabion construction
gabion construction, which are filled with rocks or other types of stone materials with proper particle sizes, are usually made from double twisted hexagonal wire netting.
Through lacing the loose edges, the walls, diaphragm plate, lid and base are expanded and assembled. This step can be completed by either conventionally using lacing wire or using steel rings. Usually the steel rings are fastened by a lacing tool, which belongs to a special pneumatic tool. The lacing tool is often used with galvanized or stainless steel rings. gabion construction is available through either rental or purchasing. Its application scope mainly involves road & rail embankments, river courses and so on.
The strong permeability effectively helps to solve the problem of drainage. The finished gabion construction are typically filled with hard durable rock like basalt or granite. And the rock grading is usually between 100mm to max 250mm in size (or max 2/3 depth of mattress). The efficiency turns out to be increased by 60% by using the lacing tool and then using the conventional lacing method. The units are typically 4 x 1 x 1m , which proves to be the most cost-effective size per cu.m. Other units are also available, including 2 x 1 x 1m, 4 x 1 x 0.5m, 2 x 1 x 0.5m, and 2 x 0.5 x 0.5m, etc. Basically speaking, the mattress sizes available are 6 x 2m plan x 170mm, 230mm, 300mm deep units.
In general, all gabions and mattresses are heavily galvanized with an optional PVC coating over the heavy galvanized steel wire.
